MPS adds student resource officer
Munising Public Schools and the City of Munising have approved a new student resource officer for the district. Also known as SROs, the program will put a City of Munising police officer directly into the Middle/High school and Mather Elementary.

Munising - Robert “Bobby” John Gamelin, 69, of Munising died at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Hospice on Wednesday evening, January 25, 2023, after spending months teaching his family and friends how to die with open hearts, an open door for visitors, love, laughs, and faith. He was born on July 28, 1953, in Munising to Louis J. and Elizabeth Agnes (Diotte) Gamelin. Bobby graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1971 where he was a charter member of the Silver Echoes Drum and Bugle Corps. Bobby married Barbara Kochis on November 19, 1977. He was employed at Neenah Paper for over 33

The 120 finalists for the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Scholar-Athlete Awards for the 2022-23 school year, presented by Farm Bureau Insurance, have been announced, which includes one successful Mustang student athlete.

The mental health of Alger County teens have gotten worse over the last two years, and have fallen further behind the national average for positive action and risk awareness. This is according to a study conducted by Alger County Communities That Care (AC3).

Emeralds start new winning streak
After su_ering a pair of recent losses, their first since back before Thanksgiving, the Emeralds Varsity Hockey team is back on track. The Emeralds went below the bridge and brought back a pair of wins, defeating the Cadillac Vikings 5-1 Friday Night before blasting the Lakeshore Badgers Co-Op 9-1 in a Saturday Afternoon mercy. The wins started a brand-new winning streak for a team that was unbeaten in 9 straight contests.

The Norse saw the North Central Michigan College Timberwolves (3-10, 0-2) erase a double-digit lead but held on to earn a 58-52 victory.
