Munising School Public Library Notes

The library is moving fullsteam ahead with a very busy schedule for the rest of March and some exciting things coming in April. On Monday, March 20 at 10:30am Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is back at story time with their Ranger Read Along program. Join a park ranger for a story about the importance of trees, play themed activity games, and make a tree craft to take home! Welcome to families with children ages 7 and under.

Letters to the Editor

I was distressed to see Resolution #2023-07 and #2023-08 up for consideration at our Alger County Commissioners meeting on Monday. These resolutions, if passed, would “instruct our Representatives to Oppose all Firearms Control Legislation”, and “declare Alger County a Constitutional Second Amendment Sanctuary”.

SC band hosts concert

The Superior Central Middle/High School band performed its Spring concert on Wednesday, March 15. The band played a selection of songs to the crowd of parents and community members in the SC middle/high school gymnasium, the same selection that the band played at the recent performance festival. The band received a II rating, which is the second-best possible ranking at the March 9 festival.

Vietnam Veterans seek donations for renovation of Alger County All Veterans Memorial

The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 237, are asking local units of government, area businesses and service clubs, as well as Alger County residents for donations to be used to replace the brick enclosure around the All-Veterans Memorial in Bayshore Park. They hope to raise the $20,000 to $30,000 necessary to demolish the existing brick enclosure and replace it with a satin bronze aluminum ornamental fence.

U.P. State Fair gets new director

Matthew Valiquette has been named the new operations manager for the Delta County Chamber of Commerce and the U.P. State Fair, according to an announcement made today. Valiquette, who brings a wealth of experience to the role, will be responsible for overseeing strategic planning, policy development, and day-to-day operations for the organizations.

Alger a gun sanctuary?

The Alger County Commission is considering two resolutions regarding Alger County’s protection of the Second Amendment, creating controversy over roles of local government regarding constitutional rights and whether or not local citizens support or reject additional gun control measures recently introduced into both houses of the Michigan Congress.
