Superior Central PTO restarts

On Tuesday, April 18th, Superior Central School held their kickoff meeting to revitalize the PTO. Throughout COVID the PTO struggled to gain traction, so a group of parents came together to give it a fresh start. The group intended to use the meeting to share the goals and mission of the PTO in order to recruit new members but the parents that showed up were ready to get to work and planning began. Many ideas were shared and the first few were chosen and put into action to get the PTO off the ground again.

McBroom joins other Senate GOPs against Big Rapids battery plant

Michigan state senators are calling for an urgent investigation into Gotion High-tech Co., Ltd., whose subsidiary is being considered for taxpayer funding to support a battery manufacturing plant in Big Rapids. The senators are concerned about the company’s direct ties to China, which they claim presents a national security risk, as well as the lack of transparency and oversight surrounding the proposed project.

Attorney held in contempt

In a first for 11th Circuit Court Judge Brian Rahilly, the judge has charged an attorney with contempt for not appearing to hearings in person. George Hyde, an attorney out of Marquette, attended the hearing 20 minutes late through teleconferencing.

SC threat update

Multiple agencies and officials have given updates on the threat situation made at Superior Central on Tuesday, April 11. According to the Michigan State Police, a 15-yearold male made a threat to bring a gun to the school on Wednesday, April 12.

Kingsford man arrested in cybersting

Matthew Clarence Cooley, a 39-year-old man from Kingsford, was apprehended on March 10 on charges of engaging in Child Sexually Abusive Activity and Using a Computer in Commission of a Crime. The arrest was a result of an undercover operation that was conducted locally by Alger County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement available to assist.

Munising Drama Club performs today The Munising Drama Club is performing “Rainbow Fish”, a stage adaptation of the famous Marcus Pfister children’s book. There will be two performances, Friday, April 21 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 23 at 3 p.m., with both performances at the Mather Auditorium.

Mustangs celebrate historic season

The Munising Mustangs expanded their annual senior game with members of law enforcement to celebrate all of the achievements of the 2023 State Championship basketball team on Wednesday, April 12 in the Munising Middle/High School gymnasium. The bleachers were packed for the game and the ceremony.
