The Michigan State HB-4336 “Defend The Guard Act” should be supported and adopted in the state of Michigan as law. HB-4336 is currently sitting in the Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security committee in the Michigan State House Legislature and it is my desire along with many others who support not only the constitution of the United States, but also advocate for the lives of our state national guard. This is a bipartisan- sponsored bill that must be passed by the committee in order to be introduced on the house floor.

After a four-day jury trial that ended on Thursday, May 11, a former dispatch supervisor for the Michigan State Police has been found guilty of multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct. Marquette County Prosecutor Matt Wiese stated to WLUC-TV that McEachern was found guilty on one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (victim under 13), which has a minimum sentence of 25 years in prison for each charge, as well as third-degree CSC (force or coercion), which carries a minimum sentence of 15 years, and fourth-degree CSC (force or coercion), which is a two-year high-court misdemeanor.

The Village of Chatham is working on numerous improvement projects after action at the village’s regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 10. Chatham has struggled with potholes on Munising Avenue for months as unusual frost patterns and snowmobile traffic have furthered existing problems with the road.

The Alger County Commission approved a new opioid policy, which will help train county staff in the use of naloxone and identifying opioid emergencies. After meeting for the committee of the whole on Monday, May 8, the county approved the decision after listening to a presentation from LMAS Health District CEO Nick Derusha and LMAS Nurse Monica Eriksen.
