100 years ago - The Munising News - Speed Regulations of Heavy Vehicles City officials served notice this week that an ordinance regulating the collection and handling of garbage will be enforced, 'and no fooling'. As a follow-through on a drive to cleanup alleys and garbage areas to reduce the danger of the spread of disease (and also to take care of a situation which has not been 'pretty' business people are being contacted to enlist their cooperation in the program, and the general public is urged to 'kick- in' by clearing yards and open lots of all debris.

Beverly “Babe” Bayne Strand, age 90, of Munising, died on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Eastwood Nursing Home in Negaunee following a lengthy illness of Alzheimer’s dementia. Services will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at the Bowerman Funeral Home.

Prosecutor clarifies Rock River Township Hall ejection

Police were called to the Rock River Township Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 29, regarding a resident of the township refusing to leave the property. At the time of the incident, the Rock River Township Clerk Maria Strand was having a private meeting with an accountant contracted by the township for auditing purposes, required by state law. Strand confirmed that the township hall was being used as an office for the accountant to review financial files, including personnel files that would have private information regarding payroll.
