We finally have that snow cover we were looking for! Last week’s storm left us a decent snowfall, with between 8” and 12” of snow on the ground at the start of the week according to the National Weather Service, creating fair to good ski conditions and hope for a chance to finally enjoy winter sports fully – eventually.

Dog Found Alive in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore After Fall from Miners Castle

Munising, MICHIGAN —On the evening of January 10th, a 3-year-old dog named Dancer got off her leash and fell off a cliff near Miners Castle onto a ledge 60 feet below. After hours of searching the area, Dancer’s owners were unable to locate their dog in the dark and were convinced she had not survived the fall.

Bids for Jail Project Sought; Board Deals with Pests

The Alger County Board of Commissioners met on January 15, 2024. Among the topics discussed were the approval of 18 items relating to expenditures and appointments. This included: paying for UP911 services, ambulance repair, the recycling contract (1 year), first responders, DHHS, the cancellation of Spectrum as a backup internet provider, and other topics already covered in previous meetings. All 18 items were unanimously approved.
