There’s a growing number of people that are circling Ishpeming as a favorite to make a serious run at a Division 4 girls basketball state championship. Munising was witness to just how good the number-oneranked Lady Hematites are on Saturday, traveling there for an afternoon game, which they lost 78-32.

A balanced scoring effort. A stingy defense. A lopsided victory. The sixth ranked Munising boys basketball team had all three of those on Tuesday, Jan. 30 when they took down visiting Bark River-Harris, 64-17.

Grand Marais welcomed in Maplewood Baptist Academy for a Northern Lights League basketball game on Monday. The Polar Bears were able to outlast the Black Bears to get the win, 45-39.

Injuries have certainly been unkind to the Superior Central girls basketball team this winter. The Lady Cougars lost another player recently, and they also lost their home game with Cooks Big Bay de Noc on Thursday, Feb. 1, 40-29.
