Munising’s Keena Jones Leads Training Program for Crisis Response Dogs in Marquette

HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response (HOPE AACR) recently conducted an extensive 3-day training workshop from May 1719, 2024. This event brought together eight dog/handler teams and one team leader from across the Midwest, including two teams from the Upper Peninsula, thanks to a generous donation from the Superior Health Foundation.

Local Munising student will represent Michigan: CONA Conference in North Carolina

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” is a quote and a campaign slogan that represents Savannah Lassila. Lassila will be part of an elite group from Michigan who will attend the Conference on National Affairs (CONA) this summer from June 25 through July 5, 2024. Only 25 total students from Michigan are selected to attend the conference which involves at least 40 states. Lassila also ran for the position of youth governor and was the lieutenant governor this school year. The CONA experience is 10 days long and covers national issues in decision- making, whereas the Michigan Youth in Government conference is about five days and deals primarily with state issues.

Zack Mazurek to be ordained to the diaconate

The importance of family cannot be overstated by diocesan seminarian, Zack Mazurek, ahead of his diaconate ordination this May. Reflecting on his journey up to this point as he prepares for his ordination to the diaconate, Mazurek said, “looking back, I think it’s such a blessing that the Lord was able to work so powerfully in my life through our family, helping me to fall in love with Him and with the Church.”

Summertime Fitness The Deep Blue Fitness Summer Training Program is intended for both athletes and non-athletes to improve overall physical fitness, both sports-related and in general. The program is for students in grades 6-12, and includes elements of strength-building, endurance, agility, overall functional fitness, and sports performance. The program runs from June 11 through August 29 at Munising High School. Students can sign-up for the whole summer, or on a month-to-month basis. Superior Central softball drops district title game to Ishpeming

For as good of a season as the Superior Central softball team had, there just wasn’t a way to get around Ishpeming and their ace pitcher Payton Manninen. The Lady Cougars took on the Lady Hematites in a Division 4 district championship game in Munising on Friday, and were only able to get one hit in what was a 15-0 season ending loss in five innings.
