Q: I was watching a TV show which involved a road accident in which the driver at fault was found to be unconscious at the wheel. The first policeman at the scene immediately went back to his car and took a small syringe-like device from a kit, giving the unconscious man an injection right through his pant leg into his thigh.

Unwavering Hope: Finding Strength in Faith and Optimism

As I was driving home from work one day I stopped to watch a local Little League baseball game that was being played in a park near my home. As I sat down behind the bench on the firstbase line, I asked one of the boys what the score was. “We’re behind 14 to nothing,” he answered with a smile. “Really,” I said. “I have to say you don’t look very discouraged.” “Discouraged?” the boy asked with a puzzled look on his face. “Why should we be discouraged? We haven’t been up to bat yet.”

Alternatively, there is an accident or construction on your way to work, and you know you’re going to arrive super late. In either of these situations, most people would have a rather negative reaction. Whether that reaction includes sadness, frustration, or even anger, it is almost always a negative reaction in some way.

Michigan’s Cherry Legacy: From Orchard to Festival

When reaching for a cherry for drying, baking, juicing, or making jam, experts recommend a tart (or sour) cherry. Fortunately, Michiganders don’t need to go far to find them, as 70% of the nation’s tart are cherries grown in the state. For snacking, sweet cherries are preferred, and while most are grown on the West Coast, Michigan comes in a close second. Native to Europe and Western Asia, cherries first arrived in North America around 1600 but wasn’t introduced to Michigan until the mid-19th century.
