Unity in Diversity: Embracing Our Differences in Faith

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. I immediately ran over and said “Stop! Don’t do it!” “Why shouldn’t I?” he said. I said, “Well, there’s so much to live for!” “Like what?” “Well...are you religious or atheist?” “Religious.” “Me too! Are you Christian or Jewish?” “Christian.” “Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?” “Protestant.” “Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?” “Baptist.” “Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?” “Baptist Church of God.” “Me too! Are you Original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?” “Reformed Baptist Church of God.” “Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?” “Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915!” To which I said, “Die, heretic scum!” and pushed him off.

Letter to The Editor

August 13, 2024 Dear Editor: Like a lot of you I’ve been glued to the television for two weeks watching the summer olympics. It makes one proud to see our athletes standing on the podium while they play the national anthem. Regardless if it’s gold, silver or bronze it still makes us proud to see them strutting around the arena draped in the United States flag. The nice thing about those flags is that they all seem to be new flags. More often than not that isn’t always the case with flags hanging from our flag poles here at home. Some have been out in the elements way too long and either need to be repaired or replaced. It is our responsibility to treat it with respect. If your flag is beyond repair, please take it down and drop it off in the box outside the Legion Post. Every year on flag day (June 14th) the Marine Corp League has a nice ceremony at the Legion and disposes of all the flags that have been put in the collection box.. They separate the stars from the stripes and burn them.

Munising Memorial Hospital Receives $2 Million for Major Upgrades

On Friday, August 2, State Representative Jenn Hill (D-Marquette) presented Munising Memorial Hospital with a check for $2 million dollars. This money was allocated in the state budget passed in June for the 2025 fiscal year. It will allow the hospital to do in a year what would have taken a decade through regular funding. The community hospital is an independent, non-profit, rural health care facility which provides Alger County with inpatient, outpatient and emergency services. Munising Memorial will use the funds for renovations and upgrades, including purchasing new lab and imaging equipment. Jim Parker, hospital CEO, praises the amazing team, from the board to employees, for their commitment to providing care. He encourages community members who haven’t been to the hospital recently to stop by to take a look around at the great things that are happening.
