Munising’s student body centered the 2024 Homecoming theme around books. Students kicked off the festivities “sleeping” through Monday by wearing pajamas in honor of Sleeping Beauty.

Falling in love with… YOU!

If you’ve been living in this world for any amount of time, you likely know how common it is for us (as adult humans) to be constantly trying to “improve” or “change” ourselves. In other words, it is far less common to love yourself just as you are than it is to hate yourself and try anything possible to change. Some studies show that a whopping 85% of adults struggle to find self-love and have low self-esteem. An even more difficult statistic to hear is that by age 17, over 75% of females are unhappy with their bodies and feel pressured to change to look a certain way.

Youth and Families Gather for 4-H Harvest Festival Celebration

Chatham, MI Youth, families celebrate at 4-H Harvest Festival: 126 youth and their families participated in activities at the MSU Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center’s Harvest Festival, sponsored by the Alger County 4-H program. Events included apple slinging, crafts, hayrides, and more, with help from local 4-H clubs. A special thank you to The Cooking Carberry’s for trying to serve wood-fired pizzas.

Fire Chief Harold Anderson retires after 43 years of service to Munising Township

After 43 years of service to the residents and community, Fire Chief Harold Anderson announced his impending retirement at the July 1, 2024 Munising Township Board Meeting. Since October 1981, Chief Anderson has served with the Munising Township Fire Department. A dedicated public servant, he has played a crucial role in numerous community initiatives, notably the planning and construction of the current Munising Township Office Complex and Fire Hall. His commitment to the community extends far beyond his official duties as fire chief.

From Community Service to Road Adventures: Vicki Ballas’ Next Chapter

After 16 years as the Michigan State University Extension Alger & Marquette Community Nutrition Instructor, Vicki Ballas is embarking on a new adventure, retirement. After enjoying a final celebratory lunch with her coworkers, Vicki left her office for the last time on Oct. 1. “It was always the people that made my job special,” she shared.

John Abbott Madison

John Abbott Madison, born January 23, 1944, died peacefully surrounded by family September 5, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Trinity Health of Ann Arbor. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna (Watson) Madison, daughters Maria (Bryant) Stuckey, Alethea Melissa (Ron) Shelly. Grandsons John Mark, Christopher and Caleb. John is survived by his brother R. Sidney Madison Piscataway NJ and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
