The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is soliciting applications for open volunteer positions on the Eastern and Western Upper Peninsula Citizens’ Advisory Councils. The councils are designed to advise the DNR on regional programs and policies, identify areas in which the department can be more effective and responsive, and offer insight and guidance from members’ own experiences and from the public.

Many landowners across the Midwest have learned how valuable a forest management plan is for understanding and responsibly caring for their forest property. A management plan gives you a detailed inventory of your property, including the number of trees and species, the condition and health of the forest, the types of wildlife you’re likely to see and more.

Last time, we looked at the geography of prayer. We don’t send our prayers off to a distant God in heaven. The word for “heaven” in our passage is plural in the Gospel’s original language. It’s “heavens,” which is also our word for sky. God inhabits the invisible space all around us. God is as close to us as the air we breathe.

When you think about winter, what comes to mind? Likely, colder weather, shorter days, less sunshine, trees with no leaves, a slower pace of daily life and more time to do … nothing. Because of these things, you may also think of sadness, loneliness and internal discomfort that can stem from not having the external “distraction” of the nicer summery weather and all of the fun things summer brings with it.

Q: I am a 36-year-old woman and have had several bladder infections in the last year or so.
