Read Across America Week: Celebrating Literacy and Imagination

Since its inception on March 2, 1998, Read Across America Week has become a cherished tradition in schools and communities across the nation. This annual event, initiated by the National Education Association (NEA), coincides with the birthday of one of the most beloved authors in children’s literature, Dr. Seuss.

Lady Cougars come up short with Carney-Nadeau

The wins may not be coming as much as they may like, but Superior Central girls basketball head coach Skip Rutter is certainly pleased with how his Lady Cougars are playing, at least on one side of the ball. S-C lost at home to Carney-Nadeau on Monday, Feb. 19, but there were still some positives from the 55-14 setback. “We may run out of time this year to get where we need to be offensively, but we are working very hard to get better defensively,” Rutter said. “And, that showed a little bit against Carney, although the final score does not reflect it. We had a pretty decent couple quarters defensively. We held one of their leading scores to three points. Our goal is to get better on both ends of the floor and try to steal a district game.”

Grand Marais Winter Fest:

Grand Marais, MI - The UP200 Winter Fest turned Grand Marais into a lively winter wonderland last Saturday, despite the cancellation of the UP200 sled dog races for the second consecutive year due to a lack of snow. The town embraced the setback and transformed it into a day of community bonding and winter festivities.
