Recent rapid snowmelt has caused flooding and damage across central and western portions of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Water is affecting roads, bridges, utilities, and other infrastructure. Businesses and homeowners are also reporting damage across the region.

Not seasonally adjusted jobless rates rose in all 17 Michigan labor market areas over the month, according to data released today by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget. “Michigan’s regional labor markets experienced typical increases in unemployment rates in January,” said Wayne Rourke, labor market information director of the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics.

This will be the fourth year for a community supported program called Farms For Folks (FFF). Initially developed by the farmers of Alger County, this program delivers free bags of fresh produce and other farm products (honey, eggs, pork, mushrooms, bread and more) right to your door on Friday afternoons from mid June to early September by the best volunteers you can imagine.

Numerous local media groups available in the Munising and Alger County area received awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Michigan Press Association at two separate awards ceremonies last week.

Hey, Hey Grand Marais! Spring is in the air, according to the calendar anyways, and the Music Festival line-up is complete. The line-up for the Grand Marais 41st Music & Crafts Festival will be jam packed with great talent and full-bodied energy. Thursday, August 10th kicks off the festival with our FREE night of entertainment from 8pm till 11pm, featuring the band “28 Days”. They come to us from the Windy City and they will blow in with high energy performances of songs we all know and love to move to! From 70s, 80s, 90s, Pop, Rock, Country & Top 40 they sing it all, so don’t forget your dancing shoes.
