Regional Michigan unemployment rates rise in January

Not seasonally adjusted jobless rates rose in all 17 Michigan labor market areas over the month, according to data released today by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget. “Michigan’s regional labor markets experienced typical increases in unemployment rates in January,” said Wayne Rourke, labor market information director of the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics.

Farms For Folks accepting applicants

This will be the fourth year for a community supported program called Farms For Folks (FFF). Initially developed by the farmers of Alger County, this program delivers free bags of fresh produce and other farm products (honey, eggs, pork, mushrooms, bread and more) right to your door on Friday afternoons from mid June to early September by the best volunteers you can imagine.

DNR decreases bear tags

Michigan wildlife regulators have set the number of black bear hunting tags for the next two years, resulting in a decrease in available licenses. The Michigan Natural Resources Commission has voted to establish the number of kill tags for hunters participating in the annual bear hunt lottery. The state will sell several hundred fewer licenses than last year. However, wildlife officials expect the number of bears killed in the seasonal hunt to increase.
