The Munising Downtown Development Authority is accepting grant applications for Spring 2023 Flower/Beautification Grants and Fiscal 2023/2024 Facade Improvement Grants. Businesses can receive matching funds up to $500 for flower/ beautification grants and up to $2,500 for facade grants.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore park rangers will return to the library on Monday, May 1 at 10:30am for our final preschool storytime of the school year. Please join us for a Ranger Read Along about patterns and math in spring, play themed activity games, and make a flower craft to take home! This program is open to families with children age 7 and under. This will be our final Talespinner’s Storytime for the school year as we shift our attention to preparing for our Summer Reading Program.

Local State Senator Ed McBroom was on the losing side of a 29-9 vote that would remove an unpopular and rarely enforced cohabitation law from the books. The Michigan Senate passed a bill on Wednesday, April 19, to remove an unenforced provision from the state’s law that makes it a misdemeanor for unmarried couples to live together.

A total of 104 cases of blastomycosis (both confirmed and probable) have been identified among employees, contractors, and visitors of the Billerud Paper Mill in Escanaba. Thirteen of these cases have resulted in hospitalization and there has been one previously reported death associated with the outbreak. These numbers are the latest update from Public Health Delta & Menominee Counties (PHDM), the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Alger County will head to the polls next Tuesday, May 2, 2023 to vote on one or two millages, depending on your voting district. Polls are open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
