Defendant’s outbursts impact 11th Circuit motion day

William John Quarfoot expressed great displeasure with his attorney, the proceedings and any potential plea offers at 11th Circuit Court motion day on Tuesday, May 16 in the Alger County Courthouse. Facing one count of assault with a weapon, Quarfoot repeatedly yelled over his attorney, accused her of making deals against his best interest with the prosecution and claimed that the court lied about bond procedures so he would not receive his money back.

Billerud employees return with more blastomycosis cases reported

As of Friday, May 12, there have been 118 confirmed or probable cases of blastomycosis among individuals who either work at or have visited the Escanaba Billerud Mill, according to the Public Health Delta and Menominee Counties (PHDM). Out of these cases, 14 individuals have been hospitalized. Additionally, there has been one reported death associated with this outbreak.
