Records set at Outhouse Classic

The 30th annual Trenary Outhouse Classic entertained hundreds of people with fast times and low-brow humor on Saturday, February 25. There was a record number of teams pushing various outhouses down the snow-covered street in downtown Trenary in front of an even larger crowd, but no one could have expected what happened at the end of the races.

No dogs, no problem

Grand Marais came together in a flash after the UP 200 was canceled, putting on a special event to help preserve the weekend from both an economic and a cultural experience. Over 1,000 people came from all parts of the Eastern Upper Peninsula to participate in various events to take place of the largest sled dog race in the Lower 48.

The 2022 deer hunting season has officially come to a close. Kicking off with the Liberty Hunt Sept. 9 and finishing with the urban deer hunt in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, which ended Jan. 31, it was a memorable season for Michigan deer hunting.

Outhouse Classic this Saturday The 31st annual Trenary Outhouse Classic will run this Saturday in Downtown Trenary. Registration begins at 11 a.m. before races start at 2 p.m.. The event will host over 1,000 viewers in the small Alger community with fan buses coming from both Marquette and Escanaba.

For the second meeting in a row, the county commission had “approve notice of discontinuation of working through lunch period” as an agenda item.

Two qualify for states

Reagan Bowerman and Andrew Cain will represent Munising wrestling at the 2023 MHSAA Individual State Championships, held at Ford Field on March 3-4. The pair both finished in the top four of their weight class at the Charlevoix regional on Saturday, Feb. 18. Andrew Cain lost his first match in the 126-pound division, but won his next two to qualify in the final spot from the 126 pound division. The Mustang pinned his next two opponents to get into the third place match, but lost to Jericho Holmes of Pine River.

Munising cheer advances to regionals

The Munising Mustang competitive cheer team took third place at the MHSAA District competition, meaning Munising will advance to the regionals this weekend in Grand Rapids. Munising scored a season high 712.14 on their way to a third-place finish. Gladstone won the district with 756.68 points while fellow U.P. team Norway was the first team failing to advance in fifth.
