The road to success: Assuring electronic waste recycling access in the Upper Peninsula

It started out as a complaint in 2014 about an unregistered electronics recycler with a pile of televisions behind their place of business. It ended with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2020 spending over $1 million to cleanup over 1.2 million pounds of crushed television tubes left in a warehouse. This was the first hint that the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) of Michigan was underserved when it came to electronics recycling.

Healthcare Access Expanded in Au Train with New Outreach Clinic

Munising Memorial Hospital (MMH) and Bay Care Medical Center have partnered to open an outreach clinic in Au Train, offering much-needed healthcare services to the local community. Starting August 6, the clinic will operate on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Au Train community building, providing residents with more accessible medical care closer to home.

Alger County Primary Election Results: Voter Turnout and Proposal Outcomes

The August 6, 2024, primary election saw a voter turnout of 34.18%, with 2,633 out of 7,704 registered voters casting their ballots across the City of Munising and Alger County’s townships. The results not only determined party nominations for various offices but also featured a series of local proposals that voters weighed in on.

The Public Library will be CLOSED for deep cleaning TODAY and TOMORROW, August 16 and 17. In order for us to do a thorough job, we will need to move things around quite a bit, and must therefore close to the public. We apologize for any inconvenience.
