The following proposals are for local taxes, which will be on the ballots in only certain precincts in Alger County. These are presented without commentary.

The Munising Beacon asked two of Alger County’s political action groups, Alger County Action and Stand Up Alger, to discuss why or why not local voters should or should not support the three statewide proposals on the ballot. One group is conservative leaning and one group is liberal leaning to ensure equal representation. The opinions and information below was created by Alger county citizens to help discuss the pros and cons of each state proposition and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of The Munising Beacon.

A popular restaurant in Au Train has new owners after more than three decades. Known for its eclectic atmosphere and a menu that features local ingredients, Deb Molitor and Jeff Van Bremen recently sold the Brownstone Inn to Tom and Ana Dolaskie of Munising.

The Upper Peninsula’s unemployment rate fell to 4.3 percent in September, down from 4.8 percent in August, but remains the same (percentage-wise) as it was in September of 2021. The Michigan Department of Technology and Budget estimates that there are 5,800 unemployed people in the U.P., which is roughly 100 more people than in September of 2021.
