LMAS District Health Department and Public Health The LMAS District Health Department and Public Health, Delta & Menominee Counties were recently notified of American Crows from Luce County and Delta County that have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). The presence of WNV in wild bird populations is a strong indication that WNV is carried by local mosquitos in Luce County, Delta County, and throughout the entire UP.

Rotary Club of Munising Donates $10,396 to Munising Public School’s Natural Resources Class

During its annual Sunset Cruise Fundraiser held on July 29th, the Rotary Club of Munising proudly announced a donation of $5,198 to the Munising Public School’s Natural Resources class. The Rotary District 6220 (Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula) has generously matched this amount, bringing the total funds raised to $10,396.

Munising Memorial Hospital Receives $2 Million for Major Upgrades

On Friday, August 2, State Representative Jenn Hill (D-Marquette) presented Munising Memorial Hospital with a check for $2 million dollars. This money was allocated in the state budget passed in June for the 2025 fiscal year. It will allow the hospital to do in a year what would have taken a decade through regular funding. The community hospital is an independent, non-profit, rural health care facility which provides Alger County with inpatient, outpatient and emergency services. Munising Memorial will use the funds for renovations and upgrades, including purchasing new lab and imaging equipment. Jim Parker, hospital CEO, praises the amazing team, from the board to employees, for their commitment to providing care. He encourages community members who haven’t been to the hospital recently to stop by to take a look around at the great things that are happening.

Miners River Bridge at Pictured Rocks to Undergo Replacement, Closure Announced

A significant infrastructure project is set to begin at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore as the Miners River Bridge is scheduled for a complete replacement due to structural issues. The National Park Service announced that starting August 15, 2024, the bridge will experience phased closures, leading to a full closure from September 2, 2024, until Memorial Day on May 26, 2025.
