Yoopers’ Beloved Tradition: The Pasties of the Upper Peninsula

All over the United States, different regions have their favorite fast food. Californians love In-N-Out Burger, the south can’t get enough Chickfil- a and the mid Atlantic rushes to Bojangles. But the favorite fast food in the Upper Peninsula isn’t from a chain restaurant. Truth Be Told: Embracing Honest Feedback and Spiritual Growth

The new minister stood at the church door greeting the members as they left the Sunday morning service. Most of the people were very generous telling the new minister how much they liked his message, except for one man who said, “The was a very dull and boring sermon, pastor.” A few minutes later, the same man again appeared in line and said, “I don’t think you did much preparation for your message.” Once again, the man appeared, this time muttering, “You really blew it. About eight years ago, the title of a book came to John Highlen, “Chasing Traver’s Magic.” Having read both “Trout Madness” and “Trout Magic”, books by illustrious Yooper, fly fisherman, and Michigan Supreme Court Justice John Voelker, John determined to write about his own adventures fly fishing. “John Voelker’s pen name was Robert Traver,” says John, and that’s where the title of the book came from.
