Celebrating Excellence in Education: JessicaBowerman Kelto Honored as MunisingPublic Schools First “Teacher of the Year”
Jessica Bowerman Kelto, a dedicated and compassionate fourthgrade teacher, has been awarded the inaugural “Teacher of the Year” title at Munising Public Schools, an honor anonymously voted on by district staff. This recognition, made possible through a $500 grant secured by Nicole Lasak, aims to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of educators and support staff within the district.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services As the year-long post-pandemic Medicaid redetermination process draws to a close, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced it renewed Medicaid and Healthy Michigan Plan coverage for an additional 141,992 people whose eligibility was up for renewal in May. More than 1.8 million beneficiaries have renewed their insurance coverage during the process, bringing the total Medicaid enrollment to 2.6 million.

Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) Dementia Caregiving Series, a three-part online program designed for caregivers of people with dementia, will be held on Thursdays, July 25, and August 1 and 8, 2024, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm (EST) via Zoom. Participants will learn basic information about dementia and its impact on brain function, how to communicate more effectively with someone who has dementia, recognize stages of dementia, how to provide meaningful daily activities based on the interests and abilities of the person with dementia, how to better understand and address dementia related behaviors, and learn strategies and benefits of self-care.
