Update and Clarifications on Rock River Township Board

Three members of the Rock River Township Board abruptly resigned at the regular meeting of the Township Board on April 16, 2024. Clerk Maria Strand, Treasurer Annie Dunn, and Trustee Trevor Case submitted resignation letters at the meeting, citing concerted and organized harassment, abuse, and false accusations directed at board members. The three detailed personal attacks and confrontation in public venues throughout the Chatham and Rock River area which has repeatedly disrupted board meetings and resulted in unnecessary expense and increased workload for township officials.

LAST WEEK IN ALGER CO

Every year Alger Kiwanis Club raffles off a 2 night stay at the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island along with a cruise on the Sip and Sail Cruise boat. (valued over $1600). All proceeds from this raffle go back into the Alger County community, primarily to children organizations. This year is the first year they sold 1500 tickets! (More than $6000 raised) CONGRATULATIONS to the winners: Grand Hotel/Cruise - Cody Grahovac, receiving certificate from Immediate Past President Jim Rodgers.

The Michigan State Police is coordinating Camp 911, offering handson learning opportunities to Alger County youth through local law enforcement and first responders. The camp will take place on June 10, 11, and 12 at Mather Elementary School in Munising. Registration costs $20, and sponsorship opportunities are available to provide scholarships.
