Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. the Munising Library will host an informative talk by the Alzheimer’s Association entitled Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Join us to learn the difference between the two conditions, the various stages and risk factors, and all of the programs that the Alzheimer’s Associations has to offer those afflicted and affected. This summer, Fort Wilkins, located a mile east of the village of Copper Harbor in Keweenaw County, is turning 100 years old as a historic state park. Built in 1844,Fort Wilkins was intended to keep law and order during Michigan’s copper rush.

As fallout continues to impact Alger County after North Country Disposal pulled its recycling services, a new concern is challenging local business owners regarding responsible waste removal. Commercial recycling is at a complete standstill in Alger County as businesses have no way to get recyclable materials from their locations to transfer stations.
