Joseph Richard Lancour, age 76 of Munising, died on Monday evening, August 14, 2023 at Medilodge of Munising following a brief illness and surrounded by his family. Joe was born on January 2, 1947 in Marquette to the late Richard and Jean (Richmond) Lancour. He graduated from Eben High School in 1965 and then served in the U.S.

Harold C. “Jack” Boaz, PhD who split his time between AuTrain, MI and Benson, AZ, died on May 11, 2023 after complications from a nine week battle with the hospital from a serious fall. Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

GERALDINE “GERRY” ANDERSON

Eben Junction - Geraldine “Gerry” Anderson, 81, of Eben Junction died following a two-year illness on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. She was born on July 27, 1941, the youngest of three children to Reinhold and Avis (Newell) Miller. Gerry grew up on the family farm and graduated valedictorian from Oconto Falls High School in 1959. While raising her family, she worked at Frigo Cheese in Lena, Wis. and worked as the office manager at Milwaukee Valve. On October 9, 1977, she married Marvin Anderson and her family moved to the Upper Peninsula in 1978. Gerry was the office manager at Norman Oil from 1979 until 2003. She and Marvin were married over 26 years when he preceded her in death on December 24, 2003. After Marvin’s death, Gerry became a VIP summer volunteer. She spent two years at the Apostle Islands and 12 years at Glacier National Park in Montana (2009 - 2021.) She spent her winters here with her friends “The Geezerettes” who spent time together in friendship while socializing and exercising together. Gerry was active in the Alger County community. She served as secretary for the Yard and Garden Club of Alger County. Gerry volunteered at the Chatham checkpoint of the Midnight Run dogsled race, and was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church where she taught CCD and served on the finance committee. She was a member of the Munising Bay Quilt Guild and was involved with the women’s organizations at the Sion Lutheran Church. Gerry was treasurer of the Alger County Historical Society and was a Master Gardener. Gerry was honored in 2005 by Alger County as Woman of the Year. Gerry is survived by her children Amy Baerwaldt of Oak Creek, Wis. and Mitch Dolata of Waterford, Wis.; stepchildren Kevin (Denise) Anderson, Lynn (Bill) Zeeman, Stephanie (Patrick) Schwingle, and Amy (Bob) Posont; grandchildren Justin (Florence Carrell) Baerwaldt, Zachary (Morgan) Schuenemann, Cody Dolata, Alicia Anderson, Haley Anderson, Tammy (Brian) Knapton, De

JACK HUBBARD JR.

Grand Marais - Jack Hubbard Jr. of Grand Marais, 67, died suddenly at Munising Memorial Hospital Monday, May 15. Jack was born in Marquette, Mich. July 29, 1955, living most of his life in Grand Marais. Jack had passions, but none like the one for his kids and grandchildren; there was old Jack (dad) and the new Jack (grandfather). He worked most of his life in the woods logging. For three years he worked in the Pacific Northwest Helicopter Logging. He started his own company in the late eighties, J. K. Hubbard Inc. He ran and managed his company until five years ago when he had an accident that put him out of the logging business, changing everything about Jack. He served his community in many roles. He was Fire Chief, Burt Township Trustee for eight years, Burt Township Supervisor for six years. As supervisor, one of his major accomplishments was having the Grand Marais Break wall built and saving the harbor. He served as Alger County Road Commission Chairman after his appointment and re-election. Active with the Grand Marais Snotrails Grooming Association. Jack’s passion for the outdoors was instilled in him by his grandfather Charles Chilson, something that only grew stronger through the years with hunting, fishing and trapping - he always was willing to teach family and young people about his outdoor activities. He had a special love for the Hurricane River camp. He loved to spend time there with his kids and grandkids. They loved it just as much. Nothing was more treasured than deer camp. He and his wife, Aleta, in 1998 bought and ran Dunes Motel, a third-generation owner. The Hubbard family is a six-generation family in Grand Marais. Nearly every night, Jack would spend time with his mom Barbara watching Tucker Carlson, with a glass of bourbon and a glass of wine for mom. He was a member of Grand Marais United Methodist Church, a member of Grand Island Lodge of Munising Free and Accepted Masons. Jack is survived by his wife Aleta nee Niemi, they were married
