Q: With the hotter-than-usual weather expected for this summer, I am wondering if there are any simple ways to help stay cool. I’m particularly concerned about my elderly relatives, who have various medical problems, and my 16-year-old son, who will be starting football practice in about six or seven weeks in hot, and often humid, conditions.

A: Chances are you were born between 1945 - 1965, which alone is enough to warrant screening for this disease, according to the United State Preventive Services Task Force. That’s mainly because this disease can cause gradual destruction of one’s liver without any symptoms.

With all the one-sided reporting of Rock River Township Board I would like to bring forth the other side of the picture. Because of the turmoil going on within the township myself and others started recording the meetings, since Sept 2022.

Participation and leadership in local government by our younger citizens is the ideal as our state and country strive to pass on the legacy of effective and important governance. This is why we educate our children – to create responsible citizens. As a society we should be encouraging these efforts and appreciating new perspectives on old issues.

Q: I saw my doctor about my chronic pain about a week ago for a medication refill, and I had to sign a new form before they would give me my prescription. I’ve never had to do that before – why the change?

This has been a very difficult time for myself and many other locally elected civil servants in our community. Your local township or village board members are not professionals in administration. They are regular citizens who have chosen to lend their time and effort to local governance which has meant spending countless hours researching and learning about their job and its responsibilities. Most are grossly under compensated for their time but money isnt why they do it. They are your neighbors who have families, work at local businesses, and volunteer their time to community efforts.
