Superior Central reboots football program, lets Trader go

Josh Trader is no longer the head coach of the Superior Central football team as the school has decided to fire the second-year skipper with many pressing issues needing to be addressed about the future of the program. “We appreciate Josh’s efforts in his two years here, but feel that it is in the best interest of the football program at this time,” SC Superintendent Bill Valima said.

Munising begins title defense The Munising Mustangs boys basketball team started off their MHSAA Division 4 boys basketball season on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at home against Norway. The results of that game was after deadline of this week’s edition and the story is available on The Munising Beacon Facebook page. The Mustangs host Manistique tonight.

Norse women back to even

The Bay College women’s basketball team pulled back to the .500 mark over the weekend with a pair of victories at the Lindquist Classic hosted by Gogebic Community College. The Norse rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the host GCC Samsons, 58-48, on Saturday, and then dominated the North Central Michigan Timberwolves, 97-57, Sunday afternoon.

Varsity hockey drops season opener

It took less than a minute for the excitement of a new season to turn into stunned silence on Saturday inside the Little Bear West Arena in Manistique. Alpena scored on the game’s opening shift, netting a goal on the first shot fired in the new season. The Wildcats carried that momentum all the way through the contest, overwhelming the Emeralds 6-1 to start the 2023-2024 campaign.
