Norse Split in Roller Coaster Weekend

The Bay College Norse Women’s Basketball Team (2-2) earned a split for the second weekend in a row using a strong shooting night to overcome the Mesabi Range Norse (0-3) by a final of 7950 on Friday night. On Saturday they fell in a closely contested battle with Madison College (2-4) 44-40 in a low-scoring affair.

Lakers drop two to Wildcats

The Lake Superior State hockey program (1-6-1, 0-20 CCHA) fell to the Northern Michigan Wildcats (7-5-0, 3-1-0 CCHA) by a final score of 5-3 on Saturday. Both teams opened the contest feeling each other out with multiple saves from each goaltender, but the Lakers were able to strike first with a strike from sophomore forward Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) after being set up by Joshua Wildauer (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) and Benito Posa (Flint, Mich.) midway through the opening period.

MIVCA All-Region Team

The Michigan Interscholastic volleyball coaches Association (MIVCA) released their regional team awards for the 2022 season with two Alger County players making the list. Alger County sits in region 2 for the MIVCA, which includes Alger, Chippewa, Delta, Luce, Schoolcraft, Mackinac and Menominee Counties. The players are included regardless of school size, but are listed by their school’s MHSAA enrollment divisions.

U.P. players take 3 of 4 CCHA awards for October

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Month for October and four student-athletes from three different programs have been recognized. Northern Michigan’s AJ Vanderbeck and Ben Halasz were named Forward and Rookie of the Month, respectively, while Jake Livingstone from Minnesota State was tabbed Defenseman of the Month and Blake Pietila of Michigan Tech earned Goaltender of the Month honors.
