For the first time in 69 years, the Munising Mustangs are regional champions. “I think it’s a special group of kids right here that really wanted this,” Munising Head Coach Terry Kienitz said.

The Munising Mustangs led all schools in Skyline Central Conference season awards this year after an undefeated run in the conference. Munising had seven awards, two more than the second-most recognized team in North Central, who won the conference’s small-school division.

The wrestling season has come to a close, with Munising’s last two wrestlers falling in the MHSAA Individual Wrestling Tournament at Ford Field on Saturday, March 4. The Mustangs sent down two wrestlers, senior Reagan Bowerman in the 150 pound division and junior Andrew Cain in the 126 division.

Mattson, Trader to U.P. All Star Football coaching staffs

The Superior Central boys basketball team won the Central Upper Peninsula conference title this season, finishing 5-2 in conference play against Republic-Michigamme, Hannahville, Mid Peninsula and Big Bay de Noc.

Big Bay defeats SC in Districts

The Superior Central Cougars ended their season with a MHSAA District 101 quarterfinal loss to the host Big Bay de Noc Black Bears 66-29 victory on Monday March 6. “They’re very energetic and intense and play hard and fast,” SC Head Coach Adam Ely said.

With the loss to Munising in the MHSAA District 101 semifinals, the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears end their season with a 15-8 record. The Black Bears finished second in the recently restarted Central Upper Peninsula Conference to Superior Central, but got revenge on the Cougars in the MHSAA Tournament.
