The Superior Central Cougars and the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears boys and girls both played each other in varsity contests in Garden Corners on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Both teams came from behind at half for the victory, but the Cougar girls were victorious 37-33 while the Black Bear boys won 41-39.
The Munising Mustangs remain undefeated after a three-game home stretch dating back to last week. Munising sits at 8-0 on the season, 3-0 after returning from the holiday break after defeating the Pickford Panthers, North Dickinson Nordics and the Rapid River Rockets.

The Munising Mustangs girls basketball team remains undefeated after a close and hard-faught game against the Gwinn Modeltowners on Tuesday, Jan. 3, with the Mustangs coming out on top 49-38.
With 55 seconds to go in the girls basketball game between Munising and Gwinn, Modeltowner’s guard Lena Pleaugh fouled a Mustang ballhandler. She recorded three fouls in the late stages of the fourth in an attempt to stop the clock and fouled out.
For the first time since 2016, the Munising Mustangs wrestling team has won its own Holiday Classic, defeating five other teams from the Eastern Upper Peninsula for the title. “It’s special to win at home, especially with the younger guys,” Munising Assistant Coach David Bowerman II said.
