Orders are open.

It’s that time of year when you see little girls with sashes standing outside of grocery stores in front of tables laden with brightly colored boxes. This year, you might only be able to see the tops of their winter hats and a pair of eyes peeking out of a cinched hood, but the boxes will be there just the same.

It’s time to order your Girl Scout cookies.

“We’re setting up booths around the community,” said Erin Dolaskie, leader of Troop 5113 in Munising. “You can either order directly from us or go onto the website and order them online.”

To find out where the booths will be located, visit gsnwgl.org and click on the “Cookies” tab, then input the Munising zip code, 49862, and a schedule will come up.

There are 11 girls in Troop 5113, a group that has been together since they were little. Dolaskie volunteered to be the leader when her daughter wanted to join.

“I think eight of the girls I have now were in the group as kindergarteners when my daughter started,” Dolaskie said. “All the girls want to keep going, so I’ll stay with them till they don’t want to anymore.”

Dolaskie said the girls meet a few times a month and go into the community to help out in ways like picking up trash.

Information on getting involved with the Girl Scouts is available online.

The cookies. Don’t forget the cookies.

Boxes are $6 apiece, and your favorite flavors have returned: Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs. They’ve retired the Toast-Yay! Flavor, which had been around since 2021.

Fear not. This year the Girls Scouts of America organization has introduced a new flavor that they’ve called Exploremores.

“They’re a sandwich cookie, like an Oreo, but the cream inside is Rocky Road flavored,” Dolaskie said. “The girls were able to preview them, and they loved them.”

Last year Troop 5113 sold about 2,500 boxes of cookies, and Dolaskie is hoping they will top that this year.

The Girl Scout cookie sale is active until April 5. If you cannot get online to order, or if you want to order specifically from Troop 5113, you can call Erin Dolaskie at 805-264-8548.
