On September 3, 2025, detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) arrested a 27-year-old man from Alger County for possession of firearms.

After a 6 month long joint investigations involving agents from with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and UPSET, it was determined that the suspect was a convicted felon and evidence posted on social media identified him shooting several different firearms.  As a convicted felon, the suspect was prohibited from using or possessing firearms.  Due to the potential danger towards law enforcement, the Michigan State Police (MSP) Emergency Support Team was utilized to execute a search warrant and take the suspect into custody. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  During a search of the residence officers located 12 rifles and one pistol.  The suspect had multiple semi-automatic firearms with large capacity “drum type” magazines.

The suspect was lodged in the Alger County Jail. The suspect’s name is not being released at this time.

Detectives from UPSET were assisted by Troopers from the MSP Traffic Safety Team, MSP K-9 Unit, the MSP Aviation Unit, the MSP Emergency Support Team and ATF.
