Playing in its final regular season game, the Munising Baptist soccer team had a chance to finish with an unblemished record. The Bobcats delivered just that on Thursday, as they defeated visiting Mackinac Island in a Northern Lights League meeting, 5-2.
The Bobcats led 2-1 at halftime and continued to control action in the second half on their way to the three-goal victory.
Dylan Swift scored two goals, Will Norton had one goal and one assist and AJ Norton and Trek added one goal apiece. Isaac Beaverson added one assist to the cause.
Ethan Swift played in net and was able to make 12 saves in the contest.
On Sept. 30, MBS hosted Ojibwe Charter in another NLL matchup. The Bobcats led 2-0 at the half and kicked in three more goals in the second for the 5-0 victory.
For Munising Baptist, Trek scored two goals, Beaverson and Killian McInerney both had one goal and one assist and Dylan Swift netted one goal.
Playing in net, as usual, was Ethan Swift. He recorded seven saves in the shutout.
Munising Baptist (14-0 overall) has secured the top seed for the Northern Lights League tournament, which the Bobcats will host this Saturday.
“I’m very proud of our team this year,” head coach Hunter MacArthur said. “We went into the year not sure what to expect, and they have been impressive since Day 1. They hustle and never quit and listen to any criticism that we as coaches give them. Now we just have to play hard and try to win this weekend.”
