Voters in Alger County approved two school-related ballot proposals in Tuesday’s election, according to unofficial results.
In Burt Township, the Burt Township School District No. 2 operating millage renewal proposal passed with strong support, receiving 154 “yes” votes and 38 “no” votes, or 80.21% approval. A total of 192 votes were cast, with turnout at 42.86%.
Burt Township School District Superintendent Kathleen Gould said the district was thankful for the support shown by voters.
“We are vey grateful for the overwhelming support for BTSD,” Gould said. “The millage approval allows us to continue to work hard as we build an even better Burt.”
Countywide, the Munising Public Schools sinking fund millage proposal was also approved, though by a narrower margin. The proposal received 791 “yes” votes and 680 “no” votes, equating to 53.77% in favor.
A total of 1,471 votes were cast on the Munising proposal, with turnout reported at 36.42% across four precincts.
Munising Public Schools Superintendent Mike Travis said the district was grateful for the community’s support.
“We are proud tonight of our community and honored by its support and commitment to its children and the future of the school district,” Travis said. “I can sleep easier knowing that soon the district will be able to make facilities and equipment upgrades that will make learning and teaching healthier and more comfortable for students and staff. I am also thankful for the army of helpers on the staff and in the community that made the fourth time the charm.”
Overall turnout for the election was 1,667 voters out of 4,498 registered, or 37.06%.
The results remain unofficial pending certification by the Alger County Board of Canvassers.
