Mustangs cruise past C-N, take down Newberry in 4

The girls came out on fire during a 25-8, 25-6, 25-18 victory over Carney-Nadeau. That allowed head coach Josh Cole to give experience to some of his underclassmen, since this match was never in doubt.

“They have really molded our team’s identity this summer,” Cole said. “We knew we had to replace some very key seniors from last year, and these ladies have done a good job pushing and raising the level of the sophomores and freshmen.”

Before that win over Carney-Nadeau, Bowerman and Deatsman gave a clinic on how to play volleyball when Munising won a tough road match in a hot and sweaty Newberry gym. Munising-Newberry is always a tough night. However, Munising won in relatively easy fashion, 25-20, 26-28, 25-18, 25-17.

Bowerman and Deatsman “have such a connection on offense,” Cole said.

Cole wants to give his youngsters playing time because he knows sophomores Vera Nettleton (six kills, five digs and five aces) and Taylor LaFlamme, along with freshman Emma Conklin, will play key roles this season.
